Tisquantum April Weekend 2017 - April Lodge Highlight
Written by Conor Power, Section eNews Lead
On April 21st, 70 Arrowmen from Tisquantum Lodge descended to Camp Squanto in Plymouth, MA for the annual Tisquantum Lodge April Weekend. This year, the weekend had a brand new aspect of Fellowship involved! The April Weekend also hosted 16 Arrowmen who kept their vigil.
Arrowmen began arriving at Camp Squanto on Friday evening to get their campsites set up. Later in the night, Brotherhood Candidates gathered to begin their journey on the Brotherhood trail. All other Arrowmen enjoyed meeting Arrowmen from other chapters and fun board games. Finally, the Brotherhood Candidates and other Arrowmen came together for a tasty cracker barrel before returning to their campsites for the night.
Tisquantum Lodge was up bright and early to start working on preparing Camp Squanto for the summer. Brotherhood Candidates and Arrowmen went to each camp site to set up the tents and make sure that Camp Squanto will be ready for an awesome summer! Once the service had been completed, the fellowship began!
The Camp Squanto sports field was packed with fellowship games and activities for Tisquantum Arrowmen to enjoy. Following a massive game of kickball, Arrowmen began camp-wide capture the flag!
After a fun afternoon of Fellowship, Arrowmen headed to the Dining Hall for an interfaith religious service. Right after, the Vigil Recognition Dinner began. The vigil candidates were served dinner by their Vigil sponsors and Vigil Advisor Steve Bailey began the ceremony. Each Vigil candidate was called up to receive their certificate while their scouting accomplishments were read aloud. Lodge Advisor John Larney and Staff Advisor Rick Poirer also spoke about the meaning of the Vigil Honor and continuing to be in service to the lodge, our Order, and those we serve.
After a delicious dinner, Brotherhood Candidates gathered for their Brotherhood Ceremony. The Tisquantum Lodge Ceremonies Team did a fantastic job of making the ceremony one that our new Brotherhood members will remember for a long time!
After the Brotherhood Ceremony, everyone returned to the Dining Hall for the annual patch auction! Several vintage items from National Jamborees, NOACs, Camp Squanto patches, and many other interesting patches were sold. To close the night, all Arrowmen enjoyed another delicious cracker barrel before heading back to their campsites.
Camp Squanto was busy on Sunday morning as Tisquantum Lodge was taking down tents, buying Tisquantum apparel and patches, and closing down camp. This was the final Tisquantum Lodge weekend that the lodge will host because Tisquantum Lodge and Chippanyonk Lodge are merging very soon. This new lodge will unify Arrowmen across 62 Massachusetts communities. We can not wait to see Tisquantum Lodge and Chippanyonk Lodge at the New England Fellowship from June 9th to 11th at the Hidden Valley Scout Camp!
